Pakistan’s experienced wicketkeeper-batsman, Kamran Akmal told that in order to do well in World Cup 2019, they need to forget past debacles and focus on the future.
Kamran Akmal, while talking to media during ICC World Cup Trophy tour in Rawalpindi, wished to see Pakistan winning the multi-nation cricket event.
“How great it would be if Pakistan wins the upcoming World Cup,” said Kamran Akmal.
The wicketkeeper-batsman believes playing conditions of England should be replicated in domestic circuit and players should be selected on their performance in the local tournament.
“Domestic pitches should be prepared keeping the conditions in England [venue for the world cup] in view,” he told. “Players’ selection must be based on performance in domestic tournaments.”
Akmal was certain that if they play well, there is no reason why they cannot become world champions for the second time. However, he feels that in order to groom players, Pakistan have to play against stronger oppositions.
“Pakistan should focus on more one day and four-day games for such tournaments, moreover playing against stronger oppositions will make them a better unit,” he stated.
Pakistan’s great leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, who lifted the touring trophy along with Akmal, is optimistic for good results from the Men in Green in World Cup 2019.
“I am hopeful that Pakistan will lift the world cup in England,” Qadir said.
The former leggie thinks Prime Minister Imran Khan will work for the betterment of cricket in the country.
The trophy tour was attended by domestic cricketers who were playing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in the city. Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt were also present at the event.
The trophy will tour to Karachi on Sunday, which will be its last destination in Pakistan.
