What's the reason of Sri Lanka's poor performances?

There was a time when Sri Lanka was considered among the toughest contenders in fifty-over format. But since the big names have completed their tenure in the team, the Sri Lankan side is facing back to back upsets.

In an on-going Asia Cup, emerging Afghanistan had a fairytale rise at the international level as they stunned Sri Lanka by 92 runs, which sent the former champions crashing out of the Asia Cup. This is not the only defeat that the team Sri Lanka had faced in this tournament, earlier in their first match against Bangladesh, the Lankans also faced a huge loss by 137 runs.

Now the question is why a team that has won a World Cup could not survive and got eliminated in the beginning?

One popular theory for such bad performances is not having enough time to prepare for a series and playing fewer practice games, while according to some cricket experts, Sri Lankan team has no game plan.

The other theory is that the teams are just not good enough in this era to adapt to different conditions but then again, it is indefensible for Lankans’ poor performances.

Some of the Sri Lankan cricket fans lashed out at Sri Lankan cricket board, they say that the internal scandals have let them down.

A couple of months ago, SLC suspended three staffers over pitch-fixing scandal reported by Al-Jazeera in a documentary. The International cricket council (ICC) opened an investigation on Al-Jazeera findings.

Sri Lankan team is suffering from a downfall in different phases, even though they have so many talented players like Malinga, Lakmal, Mathews, Mendis but still, need a miracle to bounce back in their next tournament.
