“Many may not consider us among top title contenders but we will be going to repeat the feat we achieved in 1992,” Sohail Tanveer, who is featuring in ongoing National Pentangular Cup here at National Stadium, said.
Tanveer, who took the most number of wickets in IPL’s first season, said that Pakistan will beat India, when the two teams will clash on February 15 at Adelaide.
“Although Pakistan may have a bad record against India in World Cups but I have never felt the pressure against India. I can’t say much about it and nobody could define the reason behind it but I feel we will win the match this time,” he said.
Tanveer said that Pakistan bowling attack will be an asset for Pakistan to be reckoned Down Under.
“The pitches will not be batsmen friendly in Australia and New Zealand as it is here and as it was in UAE,” he pointed.
“We have some good variations in fast bowling with Junaid Khan bowling well; (Mohammad) Irfan had such a good bounce in UAE, I believe he will be unplayable in Australia and New Zealand; Wahab (Riaz) pace will also count and hopefully if I will make it to the World Cup squad, I will also be able to make the most of the pitches there,” Tanveer said.
He is representing Federal United but is yet to put some good show in the tournament.
“I don’t believe performance in Pentangular Cup will be the only criteria selectors would follow. I have been with the team in UAE and put some good show there. Moreover, selectors will also have to take into account the condition in Australia and New Zealand. So I am hopeful to be selected in the final squad,” Tanveer said.
He further said that he is completely fit and has bowled 20 overs and fielded in 100 overs during the last two days. “I have played both back to back matches and has also bowled twenty overs. It is all in front of you,” Tanveer said.
