Winless Pakistan end hockey world cup campaign

Yet another chance went in vain for Pakistan as they lost 5-0 to Belgium in crossover match of the hockey World cup at Kalinga Stadium, India on Tuesday.

Third-ranked Belgium dominated completely on green shirts who were seemed under immense pressure and remained goalless to end their world cup campaign on a disappointing note.

On the 10th minute, Alexander Hendrickx opened the account for Belgium and gave them much needed confidence at the moment.

Just three minutes later, Belgium scored yet another goal courtesy to Thomas Briels who convincingly deceived the goalkeeper Imran Butt.

Pakistan were feeling the pressure as three of their players including captain Rizwan Sr got injured prior to the match. They tried hard to score an equalizer but nothing worked for them.

Cédric Charlier on the 27th minute and Sébastien Dockier on 35th minute scored for Belgium to take their lead to 4-0.

Tom Boon did the icing on the cake as he made the most of a penalty shoot-out to add yet another goal to Belgium’s tally.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan was participating in the mega event after the gap of eight years and failed to even get off the mark.

They lost 1-0 to Germany in their opening match, 5-1 to the Netherlands and held a 1-1 draw against Malaysia.
