‘Working with Yousuf Bhai on few weaknesses’ Asad eyes strong comeback

LAHORE: Discarded by the national team, Test specialist Asad Shafiq is currently working here with National High-Performance Centre (NHPC)’s batting coach Mohammad Yousuf.

In his recent interview to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s podcast, Asad said Yousuf has identified a few weaknesses in him and he has started working on them.

“I have had a good experience here at the NHPC with Yousuf Bhai. He has identified a few weaknesses in my batting and we are working together to get rid of it,” he said.

“As identified by Yousuf Bhai, firstly, I am working on making my body still while playing back of the length ball. My body used to open wide while playing the short ball that caused issues for me to gain rhythm. The second is my trigger moment, I used to move my front foot before the release of the ball which Yousuf Bhai identified as a flaw. I have already started working on these two points and I hope to come back stronger in this year’s domestic season,” he explained.

Talking about facilities at the NHPC, Asad praised the set-up put by the PCB. “I am really impressed with the facilities here. I would like to mention the facility of video analyst who helps us identify our mistakes in the nets. Overall, a good experience so far,” he concluded.
