World Cup 2015: Hosts Australia, New Zealand eye winning starts

Cricket fans galore!!! ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 starts off on Saturday as two big matches have been lined up on the opening day. Hosts Australia and New Zealand will be seen in action as they take on England and Sri Lanka respectively.

Co-hosts Australia will be looking to make a winning start to their World Cup campaign by beating their nemesis England at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The co-hosts, from 1971 to 2015, have won 76 matches out of 130 games against England. The hosts hold an edge as they have beaten England four times in World Cups as well.

It should be noted that Australia has won the mega event on every cricket-playing continent except in their home ground. The side will be looking to finally win the tournament at their home turf.

Australia will be heading into the match with a confident frame of mind after whitewashing England in the Ashes series and winning the tri-series earlier this year.

The second match will be contested between co-hosts New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Christchurch.

The two sides have played 10 times against each other in World Cups in which the Lankans have emerged victorious six times.

However, Kiwis will be looking to win the opening World Cup game tomorrow after beating the Sri Lankans 4-2 in their seven-match ODI series earlier this year.
