World cup final still fresh in Martin Guptill's mind

New Zealand’s opening batsman, Martin Guptill cannot believe that it has been more than a week when he featured the dramatic World Cup final against England, which they lost in an unfortunate manner.

The experienced campaigner is proud of being a part of New Zealand’s team, which put up an inspiring show on the big occasion, but also upset over the defeat.

“Hard to believe it’s been a week since that incredible Final at Lords. I think it was both the best and worst day of my cricketing life!” he wrote in an Instagram post.

“So many different emotions, but mainly proud to represent New Zealand and play for the @blackcapsnz alongside a great group of mates. Thank you to everyone for all your support, it has been amazing,” he further wrote.

In a reply to New Zealand’s runs, England got all-out with the scores tied, 241, on the last delivery of their quota of 50 overs. The final was to be decided on super over. Batting first, England scored 15 runs.

Guptill and Jimmy Neesham came out to chase the target for New Zealand in the super over and they needed 2 runs to win on the last delivery, however, a tie meant England will become World Champions on the number of boundaries they scored.

Guptill flicked the ball to square leg and got run out while taking the second run, which made England the World Champions for the first time.
