World U-19 Squash Championship: Pakistan’s 4 players move into the third round

Karachi: Pakistan’s 4 players qualified for the third round of the World under 19 Squash Championship in the men’s event. The fifth player Mehran Javed was out of the event losing the second round. Sadia Gul the only female squash player from Pakistan in the women’s event managed to reach the second round.

According to information received, in the men’s event of the championship being played at Bielsko-Biala, Poland, Pakistani players kept winning in the second round. Israr Ahmad easily brushed aside Malaysian Muhammad Faraz Izwan 3-0 making his place in the third round. He beat his opponent 11-5, 11-2 and 11-4. Abbas Shaukat without wasting time also beat Germany’s Loic Hennard by 3-0. In this match Abbas scored 11-4, 11-4 and 11-6 winning the match.

The third Pakistani player Kashif Asif didn’t have much to struggle in the second round as he beat Knudsen Matias 3-0 without losing a game and scored 11-8, 11-6 and 11-4 winning the match. The fourth player to reach the third round was Ahsan Ayaz who had an easy win over his opponent Maksymilian Wielqus of Poland by 3-0 he scored 11-3, 11-0 and 11-3. At this stage the only Pakistani player to have gone down was Mehran Javed who was defeated by American player Douglas Andrew 3-0, his score remained 12-10, 11-7 and 11-8.

On the other end the only female representing Pakistan in the women’s event of the World Junior Squash Championship, Sadia Gul won very bravely in an exciting match in the first round. She lost the first game 6-11 against Australia’s Espinall Lauren but then never looked back and won the next three games 11-7, 11-6 and 11-7 and reached the second round.
