You cannot compete against champions by feeding players biryani: Wasim Akram

Pakistan’s former captain, Wasim Akram criticised players’ diet and said that they are still being served with biryani and they cannot compete against champion teams after having such a diet.

Akram has always emphasized on maintaining a healthy diet for players to keep them fit as he believes fitness plays a key role in players’ overall performance.

“Players are still being served biryani, you cannot compete against champions by feeding them biryani,” he said on Sunday.

The Swing of Sultan feels that with key players returning to the fold, Pakistan have got a chance, but keeping the round-robin format of the World Cup in view, they will have to play well.

“It is the same format as it was in World Cup 1992, you cannot win this World Cup with a fluke, you have to play well,” he said.

Moreover, the legendary left-arm fast bowler backed struggling Mohammad Amir and said that despite his ordinary performance in the last year, he is still a viable option for the team.

However, he expressed concerns over the lack of batting talent and suggested that the board should go for quality rather than quantity.

“We are unable to find any new batsmen, we should focus on quality instead of quantity,” he said.

The World Cup 2019 will be played in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14, where Australia will defend their title against the nine other teams.
