Pakistan’s veteran middle order batsman, Younis Khan has jumped to second position in MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for test batsmen after his comeback test against West Indies.
Younis Khan missed the first test against West Indies as he was not fully fit after suffering from dengue fever some days back.
He came and scored a century that put him above Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Hashim Amla in test ranking, Khan was ranked at fifth spot before the West Indies series.
ICC report said, “Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has moved up three places to second position in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen following his side’s 133 runs victory over the West Indies in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday that has helped it take a decisive 2-0 lead in the three-match series.”
Younis Khan has once attained the top position in the test ranking back in 2009, when he scored a brilliant triple century against Sri Lanka. However, he could not get the first rank after that.
“He hasn’t been ranked as high as second since July 2009,” the report said.
“Younis now leads Root by eight points but trails Australia’s number-one ranked Steve Smith by 46 points.”
Other than him, Misbah Ul Haq has climbed to 10th position and Asad Shafiq is now occupying 14th rank.
