Northern’s young Zeeshan Malik scored his maiden double-hundred to put his team in strong position against Southern Punjab on day 1 of the fifth round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
Malik remained not out for 204 runs as Northern closed day 1 for 384-1. Skipper Umer Amin also played exceptionally well as he will resume his inning on day 2 from 153 runs. They both have so far put 307 runs together on the scoreboard.
Rahat Ali was the only wicket-taker from Southern Punjab.
In another match of Day 1, Baluchistan scored 341-3 against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Imran Butt and Imran Farhat remained not out for unbeaten centuries. Butt scored 135 runs off 283 balls while Farhat made 114 runs off 190 balls.
Awais Zia started off well for Baluchistan as he contributed 69 runs to his team’s total. Imran Khan Sr and Usman Shinwari took a wicket each for KP.
Central Punjab posted 263-7 against Sindh at Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad on Day 1. Wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal dominated the show with the bat on the opening day with scoring 90 runs off 199 balls.
Ahmed Shahzad scored 60 runs to provide a good opening start to his team. Faheem Ashraf (22) and Ehsan Adil (9) will resume the inning
Tabish Khan, Mir Hamza and Kashif Bhatti bagged two wickets each.
