Zia-ul-Haq, Adnan put Southern Punjab in driving seat


Zia-ul-Haq bagged three wickets to reduce Sindh to 142-3 after they were set to chase Southern Punjab’s (Sp) first-inning total of 517 Day 2 of the ninth round in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Earlier, it was wicket-keeper batsman Adnan Akmal who scored 107 runs to strengthen the tota of his team. Bilawal Bhatti contributed 45 runs to SP’s total on the second day of the contest.

Sindh, in reply, lost their top-order earlier. Khurram Manzoor (14), Shahzar Mohammad (50) and Jaahid Ali (6) departed in the first session to leave Sindh tattering at 34-3.

Saad Ali and Fawad Alam rescued the home side with a strong 108-run partnership. Both remained not out for 56 and 60 runs respectively.

At the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Ground, Central Punjab (CP) posted 154-5 against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). In reply to KP’s 355-10, CP had a poor start while losing their top-order.

Kamran Akmal (38*) and Rizwan Hussain (9*) remained not out at stumps on Day 2. Mohammad Saad top-scored with 49 runs on the second day.

Khalid Usman bagged three wickets while Mohammad Mohsin took two wickets.

Sarmad Bhatti (83*) and Jamal Anwar (61*) took Northern to 297-5 against Baluchistan at stumps on Day 2. At UBL Sports Complex, Baluchistan resumed their inning from 271-8 on Day 2 and managed to get 300 runs on the scoreboard. Umar Gul powered with an eye-catching knock of 51 runs.
